The real problem

The bigger the group, the less of the lesson is really yours.

Here, no more than four — you speak in every lesson.
  • Speaking time in every lessonNot only when your turn comes.
  • Direct personal feedbackMistakes don't quietly pile up.
  • More room for your own paceAnd more time for your questions.

See all five results with the breakdown

Wherever we have the breakdown, the spoken part at B1 was the strongest.

90 to 95 per cent in speaking against 70 to 77 per cent in the written part. At B2 the ratio looks different — the spoken part there is built to be harder.

Frequent questions

Everything worth knowing before you start

What level do I need to start?

Anything from A1 to C1 works. In the free first call we assess your level and suggest the right group or one-to-one lessons.

Is the free first call a trial lesson?

No, and we say so upfront. The first 30 minutes are an introduction and level assessment: Maria assesses your level, your knowledge and your goal and recommends the course that fits. If needed, a placement test follows. Teaching starts with your first booked lesson.

How long does one level take?

It depends on your rhythm. With four sessions a week a whole level takes around two months, with three about two and a half, with two around four. The material is the same, it is just spread over more or fewer weeks. Each level is divided into several parts, for example A1.1, A1.2 and A1.3. From A0 to the end of A2 takes around four months at the intensive rhythm. These are figures from our own courses, not a guarantee.

Do I have to commit for several months?

No. The group course runs in four-week blocks. After each block you decide again: carry on, switch rhythm — from the intensive to the flex course or the other way round — or take a break. There is no registration fee and no minimum term.

Is the teaching online or in person?

Regular teaching is entirely online by video. You can join whether you are in Berlin, Vienna, Zurich or still abroad.

Is there a German course in Berlin too?

The teaching happens online — including for participants from Berlin. Many of them live here, sit their telc exam at a Berlin exam centre and prepare for it with us. Before The Sprach Club, Maria taught at Berlin language schools. We deliberately have no classroom of our own: online saves you the journey.

Which exams do you prepare for?

telc (B1, B2, C1), DTZ, DTB and ÖIF. We practise each part separately, train strategies and give individual feedback after every mock exam. You sit the exam itself at an exam centre.

Which language is used in class?

German, as much as possible — explanations in Ukrainian, Russian or English where needed.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

One-to-one lessons can be rescheduled or cancelled in good time. If you cancel at short notice or don't show up, the booked lesson is charged. Missed group lessons cannot be made up individually — but you get the material, and with no more than four people we catch up quickly.

How can I pay?

By bank transfer to a European account or via an online payment link. Other options by arrangement. Payment is due before each four-week block. As a consumer you also have the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal.
